The manufacturers of Silica solid surface worktops have entered into a national distribution partnership with James Latham Ltd, the UK's leading distributor of timber, panels, flooring and solid surface. Silica will be available from all 9 branches of James Latham throughout the UK from November 2009. Silica, which is aimed at the quality kitchen market, is produced by MSF Ltd in North East England, using HI-MACS solid surface sheet produced by LG.
The partnership between MSF and James Latham is recognition that there is an increasing demand in the UK market for an affordable, high-quality solid surface worktop. With its 6mm surface, Silica offers greater design flexibility than many other solid surface worktops in the market.
MSF Commercial Manager Andy Noble said: "We have been manufacturing and developing Silica for about four years and our main outlet to date has been through a network of regional distributors and North East kitchen studios."
"Our partnership with James Latham, coupled with that of LG, places us on a national platform with a very credible and well-respected distributor and manufacturer. It will open up new markets for Silica and provides compelling endorsement of the demand that exists for this high quality but affordable solid surface solution."
Silica worktops are constructed from 6mm Natural Acrylic Stone HI-MACS sheet bonded to 30mm MR MDF with a 1mm HPL balancer to the underside. The 6mm surface allows the fabrication of drainer grooves, radius corners and undermounted sinks directly into the worktop, without the added hassle and expense of joining a separate sink module. Additionally Silica carries the prestigious FIRA Gold Award and has a five-year guarantee for added peace of mind.
Silica is available ex-stock from James Latham, currently exclusive distributor of HI-MACS in the UK, in a range of eight colours and a selection of popular sizes plus accessories. Technical advice and training with regard to finishing and installation is also available.
Chris Sutton, Director of James Latham Ltd, said: "Solid surface continues to take a greater share of the kitchen worktop sector and Silica offers a solution to customers who want the benefits of solid surface but require a lower price than the bespoke option. Solid surface is one of our fastest growing products in every area of construction. With over 200 product options and more soon to be introduced we will be able to assist our customers to add value to their product offer."
When the installation of the Silica worktops is complete, HI-MACS acrylic technology enables all joins, including optional colour match sinks, to be polished to create an almost seamless expanse of beautiful, hygienic and extremely durable surface that will repel any ingress of moisture is easy to clean and is tested to a heat resistance of 180°c.
